Haribo TV Advert Analysis

Cinematography/Camera

In this advert the use of camera angles is limited. This is because we are presented by businessmen and women whom we would assume to be serious and of a high stature in the business, for this they would have used a high angle; however, the fact that the advert depicts the businessmen and women to be childish in nature then balances out what you would assume the seriousness of the video to be. Haribo, a company that makes sweets, is targeting this advert at multiple audiences. Due to the fact that the actors are all adults, this is the company trying to say that adults are still able to enjoy Haribos. Also, the fact that Haribos are an item that appeals to children this would then draw in their attention too.

The advert is filmed from a mid-shot view at a flat angle. This allows the camera to capture enough of the facial expressions and costumes in order to make it humorous.

This advert uses the humour technique in order to persuade the audience to buy the product. The way that the advert is put across to the audience suggests that no matter what age we are we will still enjoy Haribos.

Mise-en-Scene

Props -  the main props used in this advert are the sweets themselves which are held by the actors in order to show them off to the camera. This advert's use of props directly shows off the product in question which allows the viewer to see what they would be buying.

Lighting - In this advert, the production company has used three-point lighting in order to make sure everything can be seen. The front lighting most likely comes from artificial lights added behind the camera. The room lights are most likely on in order to make sure the top of their heads aren't too dark. Also, the big glass panels in the back of the frame give the backlighting for the scene, this allows the scene to have natural lighting which makes the advert feel more real.

Costume - All of the actors in this advert are wearing plain business attire. This gives the audience the initial impression that the advert is going to be serious. The costumes used are plain in colour and design which represents how these actors are portraying that average businessman or woman you would see in London, where this advert was filmed.

Setting/Location -  This advert was shot in an office in Central London. We can tell this from the fact that the room in which the actors are being filmed in resembles an office you would see in London and we can also spot Saint Paul's Cathedral in the background of some of the shots.

Performance/Movement - The actors perform in a very childish like manner, almost saying how eating Haribos will either bring you back to your days as a child or make you feel like a child again.

Sound

There is no background music to this advert, which allows our attention to focus on the dialogue that is going on between characters. The voices of the characters are non-diegetic as they are the voices of children. However, through post-production, the voices are depicted to be diegetic and coming from the actors. This again gives the advert a humorous tone.

The only other sound we have in the advert apart from the dialogue is the catchphrase/slogan for the company. "Kids and Grown-ups love it so, the happy world of Haribo". This slogan is sung by a female and sound almost like a nursery rhyme. This further plays on the fact that adult actors are being used for the advert but the product is mainly for children.

Editing

The establishing shot takes about 3 seconds of the adverts time. This cutting rate is then averaged out to about 1.5-2 seconds per cut.
